Sepsis

Aunt Tudi has been diagnosed with sepsis and is back in the hospital in ICU. Does anyone one know anything about this infection and what her chances of overcoming it are? Please please help me.

Sweetie, sepsis is extremely dangerous, moves fast, and can be fatal. I hate to say it but you need to know. My dad died from it. They have to find the source of the infection in her blood and treat it. Sending you all the love and good vibes I can hon.

Depends on what bacteria she is infected with and how long she has been infected, what areas are infected. Could be terrible, could be merely serious. Is she on touch precautions? Is she in isolation?

My sincerest prayers are with her. Talk to the nursing staff and ask them to give you prognosis and stuff. They should do it if you push them.

Sepsis is very, very bad mojo sugar. All I can tell you is they need to find the source of the infection and until they do allow them to do whatever they need to do to keep her comfortable and ease her healing. Ventilators, IV antibiotics, and just so you're warned ahead of time, she might need dialysis, too.

They need to hit it with the right antibiotic. If they're lucky, they'll get it on the first guess or two, otherwise they may need to run culture tests and wait for results to come back. There's a few bacterials that are common for sepsis, and possibly with certain health conditions, so they have some educated guesses to start with, if the ICU team is on the ball and gives a shit.
