    Electric Light Orchestra "Eldorado"

Here it comes, another lonely day, playing the game,
I'll sail away on a voyage of no return to see
if eternal life is meant to be
and if I find the key to the eternal dream.

The painted ladies of the Avalon play in the sun,
take to the road, to the North there lies the chills of cold,
to the South there lies the tales untold.
But in between there lies the place to close your eyes.

And I will stay, I'll not be back, Eldorado.
I will be free of the world, Eldorado.

Say goodbye, the city's heroes sing, bird on the wing
feel, feel so free through the life upon the rooftop haze,
all the cheating and the broken days.
So through it all I see there's nothing left for me.

So I will stay, I'll not be back, Eldorado.

I will be free of the world, Eldorado.

Sitting here on top of everywhere, what do I care.
Days never end, I know the voyage's end will soon be here,
no eternal life is here for me.
And now I found the key to the eternal dream.

Then I will stay, I'll not be back, Eldorado.
I will be free of the world, Eldorado.
    Then I will stay.

This has been my funeral song for thirty years. I don't want any other song played, really. Just this one. It's very special to me and says everything I want to say in death. I hope I won't be back this time around. I hope I've done my time reincarnating and that this is my last mortal sojourn. It's time to remain in Avalon.

So ends the Music Meme of Doom!

Harry Nilsson was such a wordcraftsman. I doubt anyone could top this soppy Country ballad when it comes to break up songs. Here are the lyrics so you can sing along.

The other day I met a girl named Joy
    She said come here,
I'm gonna make you my joy boy
Well, things went good and things went bad
Now everytime I think of Joy
    It makes me sad
    It makes me... sad
The other day I met a girl named Joy
    She said Roy!
I'm gonna make you my joy boy
Well, she took me for a ride
    Sort of a joy ride
Now everytime I think of Joy
    I get all weird inside
    Oh, Joy to the world
    Was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
Now--if you haven't got an answer
Then you haven't got a question
And if you never had a question
Then you'd never have a problem
But if you never had a problem
    Well, everyone would be happy
    But if everyone was happy
There'd never be a love song
    Joy was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
The other day I met a girl named Joy
    She said, Come here,
I wanna make you feel all clammy inside
Things went good good and things went bad
Things went good... things went bad
Good, bad, good, bad, good, bad
    Joy to the world
    Was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
    Oh, Joy to the world
    Was a beautiful girl
But to me Joy meant only sorrow
Joy, I know you're out there
I want you to turn on your radio and listen to my song

"Super Tuff" by XTC. One of the few songs written by Barry Andrews that I can honestly say I dislike. He was right to part ways with XTC so he could blossom into the lovely deathflower that was inevitable outside the realm of Andy Partridge's influence.

When I first played this song for the Father Unit, he was enthralled with Israel's voice, said it had a bell-like quality that so few voices possess. I bought the CD for him and he'd sit in his chair at the kitchen table and listen to the album over and over again, especially this song. As a result, I've since equated Iz's "Somewhere over the Rainbow" with the Father Unit and I get a little sad when I hear it, because I miss.

Actually, anything from the soundtrack to The Lord of the Dance takes me back to those heady days of pheromonal love at first sight as soundtracked by traditional and contemporary Celtic music. After the Harpist and I broke up, it took me years before I could listen to this music...well, pretty much any Celtic music. This left an incredible hole in my life that I'm still trying to fill and level off emotionally. The entire soundtrack of The Lord of the Dance is painfully beautiful. What's so sad is that the pain outweighed the beauty for longer than I cared to admit ~ approximately a decade.

No, I hadn't forgotten about this; I've had sporadic time online. So let's continue on with Day 8. The band that comes to mind here is Nickelback, aka Nickelcrap. Even Barry thought that was their name because of my deriding the band. He much preferred my name to the band's official cognomen. Everyone of their songs sounds the same and the lead singers (lack of) voice sets my one nerve on edge. How anyone can handle this crap band is a mystery to me. I'm not even posting a You-Tube video for fear I'll introduce someone who turns out liking them. The last thing I want to do is promote these talentless gits.

Behold the greatness of the Shrieks!

That is the song by which they're mostly recognised, but they're so much more. They've been making music since 1981, bringing a dark funk sound to the world that had never before been heard. But I didn't hear of them until 1990 when Aunt Tudi taped the above video from MTV's 120 Minutes. My life literally changed when I saw the music video. The band re-wired my mind and jump-started my writing of what would eventually become The Chalice. It's what finally drove me to England, where I met one of the core members of the band, Barry Andrews. He's the one singing in the video.

Even though they don't identify as being Goth, the Goth community seems to have embraced Shriekback. They're labeled as Goth in record stores and on sites like eBay. I really don't label them as Goth myself, even though Barry labels me as Goth (harrumph!). Their music is difficult to label because it embraces so many different styles, from funk to dub to dance to ethnic. I believe that's their pull for many people. The band itself has four core members: Dave Allen, Barry Andrews, Carl Marsh, and Martyn Barker. Calling themselves a collective, the Shrieks membership would swell and shrink as needed. Making an album was always an experience and an experiment. Their passion and artistry shine through on every album.

A new album is scheduled to come out in the Autumn of this year. I've heard some of the tracks and did a tentative song-by-song for the ones afforded me. When the new album comes out, I'll be writing up an official song-by-song for the band. It's what I've done for years and, in part, what has earned me the title of Shriekback Chronicler. I can deal with that name. In the meantime, here are the lyrics to 'Nemesis,' and if you have any questions about the band, feel free to ask, as I probably know.

In a jungle of the senses
    Tinkerbell and Jack the Ripper
Love has no meaning, not where we come from
But we know pleasure is not that simple
    Very little fruit is forbidden
Sometimes we wobble, sometimes we're strong
But you know evil is an exact science
    Being carefully correctly wrong

    Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
    Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home

We feel like Greeks, we feel like Romans
Centaurs and monkeys just cluster round us
We drink elixirs that we refine
From the juices of the dying
We are no monsters, we're moral people
And yet we have the strength to do this
This is the splendour of our achievement
Call in the airstrike with a poison kiss

How bad it gets you can't imagine
The burning wakes, the breath of reptiles
God is not mocked, he knows our business
Karma could take us at any moment
Cover him up I think we're finished
You know it's never been so exotic
But I don't know my dreams are vicious
We could still end up with the great big fishes

Johnette Napolitano. Anyone who can sing a capella has my admiration. She does it with class in this video.

She's best known for songs like "Joey" and "Caroline" with the band Concrete Blonde. She's at her best Vampiric style with this song.

I think she has an absolutely beautiful voice and she uses it to perfect effect. I've told Aunt Tudi more than once I'd consider selling my soul to Satan to be able to sing like Johnette Napolitano. Her alto voice seems to cut right through you with its acerbic beauty. She can sing so sweetly at one point, then blow your hair off your head with the power of her voice. She still performs out in Los Angeles and I actually got an invitation to come see her perform, but there was no way I could make it. That's one of my greatest regrets. Here are the lyrics to "Bloodletting: the Vampire Song."

There's a crack in the mirror
and a bloodstain on the bed -
There's a crack in the mirror
and a bloodstain on the bed -
O you were a vampire and baby
    I'm the walking dead
O you were a vampire and baby
    I'm the walking dead

    (chorus)
I got the ways and means
    to New Orleans I'm going
    down by the river
    where it's warm and green
I'm gonna have a drink, and walk around
I got a lot to think about oh yeah oh yeah

There's a rocking chair by the window
    down the hall
I hear something there in the shadow
    down the hall
O you were a vampire and now I am
    nothing at all
O you were a vampire and now I am
    nothing at all

    (chorus)

They used to dance in the garden in the
    middle of the night
Dancing out in the garden in the
    middle of the night
    O you were a vampire
and I may never see the light
    O you were a vampire
and I may never see the light

Day 4: Your favorite male singer.

    Jeff Lynne, hands down.

He's the one who taught me how to sing when, in my youth, I was avidly seeking a role model and the skinny chicks weren't doing it for me. His voice was, to me, quintessentially English, and what he sang about made me want to know more about the subject line or the meaning of a word. I studied every nuance of Mr. Lynne's voice and grew up to be invited to sing at weddings and lay-led services at the local Unitarian Universalist church. Every time I sing, I think of Jeff Lynne, and I can hear him in my voice, my vocalisations are Lynnish in every way. This is probably why I can't sing Shriekback songs to save my life. Barry Andrews is like the anti-Lynne. Anyway, Jeff Lynne is my all-time favourite male singer. Here are the entire lyrics for "Can't Get It out of My Head."

    Midnight on the water.
    I saw the ocean's daughter.
    Walking on a wave's chicane,
staring as she called my name.

And I can't get it out of my head,
no, I can't get it out of my head.
Now my old world is gone for dead
'cos I can't get it out of my head.

    Breakdown on the shoreline,
    can't move, it's an ebbtide.
Morning don't get here till night,
    searching for her silver light.

And I can't get it out of my head,
no, I can't get it out of my head.
Now my old world is gone for dead
'cos I can't get it out of my head, no no.

    Bank job in the city.
Robin Hood and William Tell and Ivanhoe and Lancelot, they don't envy me.
Sitting till the sun goes down,
in dreams the world keep going round and round.

And I can't get it out of my head,
no, I can't get it out of my head.
Now my old world is gone for dead
'cos I can't get it out of my head, no no.

No, I can't get it out of my head,
no, I can't get it out of my head.
Now my old world is gone for dead
'cos I can't get it out of my head, no no no no.

    "Daylight" by Matt & Kim

This happy song was featured in a liquor advert, which is where I started my research on what the song was and who it was by. I came up on this duo from New York City.

The song never fails to get me moving and people have often caught me butt-dancing in my car when the song comes on Son of iGor. It's just one of those songs that has that happy-slappy feel I wish I'd had when I was their age. I've come to realise, though, that it's never too late to have a happy-slappy attitude, so I move how ever I want when the song appears on the player. Here are the lyrics.

we cut the legs off of our pants
threw our shoes into the ocean
sit back and wave through the daylight
sit back and wave through the daylight

slip and slide on subway grates
these shoes are poor mans ice skates
fall through like change in the daylight
fall through like change in the daylight

i miss yellow lines in my roads
    some color on monochrome
maybe i'll paint them in myself
maybe i'll paint them in myself
maybe i'll paint them in myself
maybe i'll paint them in myself
maybe i'll paint them in myself
maybe i'll paint them in myself

    these sidewalks liquid then stone
building walls and an old pay phone
it rings like all through the daylight
it rings like all through the daylight

    chorus
and in the daylight we can hitchhike to Maine
i hope that someday i'll see without these frames
and in the daylight i don't pick up my phone
cause in the daylight anywhere feels like home

I have five clocks in my life
and only one has the time right
i'll just unplug it for today
ill just unplug it for today

    open hydrant rolled down windows
this car might make a good old boat
and float down grand street in daylight
and float down grand street in daylight
and float down grand street in daylight
and float down grand street in daylight
and float down grand street in daylight
and float down grand street in daylight

and with just half of a sunburn
new yellow lines that i earned
step back and here comes the night time
step back and here comes the night time

    chorus x2
and in the daylight we can hitchhike to Maine
i hope that someday i'll see without these frames
and in the daylight i don't pick up my phone

A better version of it is here, but embedding is disabled.

I think that the combination of hopelessness in the song combined with the hopeless quest on which the steward sent his son strikes me every time. And it's a Scotsman singing the song in a capella. I adore this song and it brings tears to my eyes every time. Here are the lyrics, written by Billy Boyd.

Home is behind the world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mist and shadow, cloud and shade
    All shall fade
    All shall fade

Yeah, it just grabs my heart and squeezes uncontrollably. It actually made a cameo in the Faust story (which will probably have to be removed for copyright reasons). This song has serious tearjerking ability. And I'm not usually a crier.

I've decided to do another monthly meme, this one coming from [livejournal.com profile] theafaye. So here goes.

    Day 1: Your favourite song

This isn't the best version, but it's the only version of the song available online. If I could learn to record songs onto You Tube, I'd change that immediately. I think I'll just transcribe what Barry Andrews said about this song first, then write a little bit about it myself.

"This - if I may make so bold - little gem was only previously released on the Y Records Xmas album, which may not have found the Total Market Penetration it doubtless deserved, so here it comes again. Inspired partly by the novel Riddley Walker (Shriekback required reading) and also by an Acid experience in a forest in which Vivienne Kent and myself experienced being predators of a blood-thirsty, lupine/vampirish kind, and, from the top of a tree contemplated a cosy little family out for a stroll with a view to slaughter and dismemberment (their only possible use). Ah, great days - and they still haven't found the bones (joke)." ~~ Barry Andrews

The moment I heard this song, I was hooked. The beat is the most unusual percussion I'd ever heard. I found out it was Carl Marsh's idea to take garden sticks and beat them on the rims of congo drums. How brilliant is that? When I found out what the song was about, I was fairly alarmed, but I can't help but adore this song. It was written by Barry Andrews obviously, and has garnered a lot of attention since it's humble beginnings on a Christmas album of all things. Of all my writing, I'd have to say that this is the song that drives my work. If I can learn to put the original track up, I will. In the meantime, watch what the musicians are doing as they're being subtly guided by Barry Andrews. They're building a Cone of Power on stage and most probably in the audience as well. To create such magickal power with such an already powerful song is both bold and careless in a way, but Barry Andrews was careless and calculating in those days, so we can't blame him too much. We can only be drawn into the tribal madness of "Despite Dense Weed.' As requested by [livejournal.com profile] theafaye, here are the lyrics to "Despite Dense Weed."

We had no breakfast, we made no attempt at Chivalry
We hadn’t-yet-explored all of the avenues of ecstasy
We strode into the brambles with a predatory calm
Those days seem awkward- when we think about them now
The fork, the gristle and the pulse, the parts of me I like the most
My shivers when the fire goes out
    The principles of hungry mouths
The balance here is delicate and is easily disturbed
All that keeps the dark back is a following of words

Glue on the hand-holds now flakes off the old iron now
Brew up a thick one now-shining a light in now
Shape like a heart’s shape now, shapes like the branches now
We dream the next dream now, take up the slack wire
    now.

At the moment of the taking our excitement is the same
We understand the danger of the fanning of the flame
Desire the heart before it cools, affect the shame to look away:
Our confusion is a cousin of the panic of the prey

Shape like a heart's shape now, shapes like the branches now
We dream the next dream now, take up the slack wire now
Breath clouds the cold glass now-chalk on the shinbone now
Stuck to the driver now Arms through the arm-holes now

We hold the Life in one hand as the one who bakes the bread
(The erection at the hanging and the tearing off of heads)
Stand elated at the burning – all our murders look the same
We are the thought and the display, the explanation and the side-effect

Breath clouds the cold glass now-chalk on the shinbone now
Stuck to the driver now Arms through the arm-holes now
Glue on the hand-holds now flakes off the old iron now
Brew up a thick one now-shining a light in now.

I got this from the effervescent [livejournal.com profile] ici1011!

    Meme me, meme you.
IF YOU COMMENT ON THIS JOURNAL, I SHALL...

    1. Respond with something random about you.
    2. Tell you which color you remind me of.
    3. Tell you my first memory of you.
    4. Tell you what animal you remind me of.
    5. Ask you something I've always wondered about you.
    6. Tell you my favorite thing about you.
    7. Tell you my least favorite thing about you.
    8. Challenge you to post this on your journal.

    Ask Away!

    Feb. 20th, 2010 09:39 am
    tinhuviel: (Torquemada)
Go HERE and ask me anything you please. The question can be about me, about you, about someone else, about the universe, about anything, or everything! Just ask!
    tinhuviel: (Torquemada)
Here are the rules - post this list in your journal.

If I tagged YOU, it's because I want to know more about YOU! (and I mean that, so humour me, won't you? If you see this, consider yourself tagged kapische?)

    1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? No, but my cousin named her little girl Angelina after me.

    2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? I'm crying right now. Jar Jar Binks was just introduced in 'The Phantom Menace.'

    3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? It's not as good as it used to be because I type everything now.

    4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? Roast beef or, as it's known in Whoville, roast beast.

    5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS? My four-legged co-habitants are my kids, just as the characters in my short stories and books.

    6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU? Oh, why not?

    7. DO YOU USE SARCASM? We've a mutual agreement. I use it and it uses me. Symbiosis, man. All...the...way...

    8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS? Yes. They bump together like clackers whenever I get sick.

    9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP? I'd jump over the bungee cord to get the hell out of there.

    10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL? Anything resembling Muesli.

    11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF? No, I wear Birkenstocks, so they just slide on and off, all groovy-like. Any self-respecting Hippie would follow suit.

    13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM? Ben & Jerry's Wavy Gravy. They no longer make it, so the world is a lesser place for that unwise decision.

    14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE? Eyes. Always the eyes.

    15. RED OR PINK? Blood red.

    16. WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF? My ability to make people cry with just a few well-chosen words.

    17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST? Living or dead? This question can't be adequately answered.

    18. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO COMPLETE THIS LIST? It'd be nice, but I know it won't happen.

    19. WHAT COLOR PANTS AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING? Black and black.

    21. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

    22. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE? Crimson

    23. FAVORITE SMELLS? Egyptian Musk and English sheep poop, but not together. And the sheep poop has a very organic aroma. It brings back an incredible deluge of ancestral memories.

    24. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE? my aunt, Janice.

    25. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS TO YOU? Yes, but I'm afraid she's left me behind for greener pastures, as 't'were.

    26. FAVORITE SPORTS TO WATCH? Martial arts.

    27. HAIR COLOR? Brown.

    28. EYE COLOR? Silver blue.

    29. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS? No.

    30. FAVORITE FOOD? Cheese pizza with extra cheese and cheese on the side.

    31. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? Scary movies. Happy endings are way too unbelievable.

    32. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED? Se7en (Kevin Spacey FTW!! \o/ )

    33. WHAT COLOR SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING? Black with white writing that says "Can't stop writing or my muse will eat me." If you knew my muse, you'd know this is not a joke.

    34. SUMMER OR WINTER? Winter.

    35. HUGS OR KISSES? Get offa me, creepy human animal!

    37. MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND? I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] gunslingaaahhh will have a few choice remarks.

    38. LEAST LIKELY TO RESPOND? Oh, pretty much everyone.

    39. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW? I'm rereading Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban so, if my grammar suddenly starts going down the toilet, that's why.

    40. WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSE PAD? I have a laptop, so I don't have a mouse pad. There are no mice around here who would dare set up housekeeping because the cats would rip off their heads. I do think it'd be nice to see what a mouse's pad-d looks like. I'd rather imagine it'd be a lot like Austin Powers groovy pad-d. Or the Joker's.

    41. WHAT DID YOU WATCH ON TV LAST NIGHT? a 'Law & Order' rerun (BONG BONG)

    42. FAVORITE SOUND(S)? The sound of falling snow at night.

    43. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES? Beatles all the way.

    44. WHAT IS THE FARTHEST YOU HAVE BEEN FROM HOME? Brighton, England. Although I consider England to be my true home, so this question is rather difficult to answer. If England is my soul home, then the furthest away I've been is San Diego (don't drink their water...)

    45. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT? I do a killer impression of Lieutenant Worf complaining "Sir, I protest! I am not a Merry Man!" And I'm pretty good at rallying the masses for "Causes."

46 WHERE WERE U BORN? What makes you think I was born? I came into existence in Asheville, North Carolina.

    47. WHOSE ANSWERS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING BACK? I'd be happy with just about anyone saying anything. I love these surveys way too much.

    48. HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR SPOUSE/SIGNIFICANT OTHER? I needed a Shriekback tape converted from PAL to NTSC for the Shriekback site. The man who did it for me became my other half for 7 years. But he has sailed to the West and I'm very happily single now, so there you go.

    1. if you could have a drink or dinner anywhere in the world, with any ONE PERSON (alive or dead) where/who and why
I already have ~ Barry Andrews ~ that's because I like to have intelligent conversation about life, the universe, and everything...and I like to face my fears head on.

    2. on another plane, you're married with 3 children. boys? girls? combination of the 2? what are their names?
Gabriel Sebastian (because that's my favourite Angel and I like the name Sebastian), Lirit Anastasia (Lirit is Hebrew for lyrical and I find that heartening. I'd want my daughter to be poetic. Anastasia always seemed regal, so that's why I picked it.), and Douglas Everette (Named for Dougie MacLean, my favourite Scots Folk singer, and my father, whose name runs in the family).

    3. something that makes you laugh so hard you cease functioning properly
Jim Carrey being birthed out of a rhino in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
    4. you've just won $3 million in the lotto! what're you gonna do with it?
Pay off my debts and move to England.

    5. if you could have a ph.d in anything, what would it be and why?
Quantum Physics. I believe that Quantum Physics is the key the Truth of Everything. It will merge science and religion and give all the answers we could ever dream of have questions for. I'd love to explore that realm and be a Magus of space and time.

    Questions from [livejournal.com profile] thenodrin
    1. If Mel Brooks made History of the World Pt 2 for a summer 2010 release, who would you want to see in it?
    2. Definitely Cloris Leachman and Gene Wilder. Peter MacNicol would be cool too. He's a hell of a comedian. Mel himself of course. Anyone else Mel deemed worthy. I have always and will always trust his judgement.
    3. You are writing your main character's Crowning Moment of Awesome, the thing that the character was created to do and that everything in the main plot pushed toward. What happens next?
    4. I have a start a new book with totally different characters. Or write a book having to do with the character outside the main plot. That's all I'm gonna say about it.
    5. You are out of town for the weekend and have forgotten your cell phone charger. Early Sat morning the battery dies. How do you react?
    6. I'm not really concerned because I don't have a cell phone.
    7. Portrait or landscape?
    8. Depends on the picture, now doesn't it?
    9. What is your favourite Christmas memory from your childhood?
    10. Watching the Rankin/Bass specials on TV.
    tinhuviel: (Agent of Chaos)
Passed on to me by [livejournal.com profile] gunslingaaahhh.

Name a fictional character I love or hate and I will tell you why I either love or hate them. (then post this in your blog so I can ask you the same question)
    tinhuviel: (Torquemada)
I'm about to get down to business but, before I do, I need to feed my odd survey addiction. Seriously, is there a support group I could join or something?

    1. How tall are you barefoot? 5'5.5"

    2. Full Name: Tracy Angelina Evans (I'll leave of the Esq. Don't want to be haughty)

this is why it's called 'The Cliffs of Insanity' )
    tinhuviel: (Torquemada)
firstly: if you've been tagged, you must write your answers in your own LJ and replace any question that you dislike with a new, original question.

secondly: tag eight people. don't refuse to do that. don't tag who tagged you.

how would you describe your siblings (if you have any)?

Adopted little brother. Likes to scamper about in disguise. Yeah. Lots of people think he's really cool. They're right.

have you ever lied to a teacher?

Not to my knowledge. I try not to lie. Try.

what kind of book would you describe as a good read?

thought-provoking, something that follows you for the rest of your life and you're compelled to reread over the course of your life.

    what's your occupation?

    writer and pr ninja

    what stereotype are you?

I prefer to encourage the persona of angry, hateful, old hag. I was the Fat Kid in Stereotype Land (aka school) and was appropriately beaten down psychologically for the label. It turned me into an angry, hateful, old hag.

    what's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?

    Uhm....Joker?

what are you listening to right now?

    "Goodbye Stranger" by Supertramp

what food could you eat every day for weeks and not get sick of?

    Po-tay-toes!

what websites do you always visit when you go online?

LiveJournal (always first), Yahoo mail, Twitter (via Tweetdeck, thanks [livejournal.com profile] rancid_rainbow!), The Joker Blogs forums, Facebook, and a variety of news sites.

what are you going to do next year?

    I have no idea.

what was the cutest thing you've seen today?

Steve running across the front yard on his hind legs, trying to catch a carpenter bee.

does the weather affect your mood?

Yes. Summer in SC pisses me off more than I usually am.

    what is your zodiac sign?

Virgo sun, Libra moon, Sag rising. I have more Sagittarius inclinations than Virgo, I think. At least creatively.

do you want to learn another language?

I want to know all languages. I want to know why the Finns and Hungarians share a common root language, yet live so far apart. I want to know where the Basques came from, as their language isn't Indo-European, yet there they are, right there in Spain. I've learnt bits and bobs of Irish Gaelic, Welsh, Russian, Polish, Czech, Yiddish, French, German, Spanish, Sindarin, Vulcan, Klingon and, just recently, Engrish.

five things you can't live without.

sleep (okay, I lied ha ha), Teh Intarwebs, books, music, movies, my Tribe.

if you could meet anyone now, who would you meet?

Like a famous person? Jeff Lynne. Almost met him, but about four feet prevented my doing so. Foiled again!
Non-famous, but should be ~ all my homies online whom I have yet to have the pleasure to meet in real life.

what's something you'd like to say to someone right now?

I'm writing you in my next story. Your character will meet a painful, violent death. Have a nice day.

what are you looking forward to?

    What's next.

say something to the person who tagged you.

You know I have to fill these things out, you wretched little girl. Mum's angry.
