I have a poll. Won't you please go vote in it? I'd really rather appreciate it.

tinhuviel: (Cadmus Pariah)
I'm almost 4000 words into "Isobel" and she is about accept Cadmus' offer to join him in the hunt. My dilemma is that I'm wondering how long the hunt will be. I don't want any one hunt with another Vampire or human turned Vampire to last too very long. Cadmus has little patience with others despite his newfound need for companionship. With his newfound emotions, you could say he has become a player. I have named the collection of shorts The Harming Tree for Barry's homemade musical instrument/art piece. I will, of course, ask him if I can continue to use this before proceeding in trying to get the stories published. For what the Harming Tree is in the stories, the title fits perfectly. Before I go further with this, I may go ahead and approach him with the idea. By now, I'm sure he's used to my associating gruesome concepts with him, poor man.

Last night, I posted a picture of Tom Hardy as Shinzon. This picture in fact.

One of my Facebook friends made mention that the picture was not one of Barry Andrews. O_O Does Tom Hardy look like Barry Andrews?! I realise a lot of people think that all bald men look alike, but good god on a popsicle stick, I can't bear to think about that. He's my primary choice to play Cadmus and, yes, Cadmus was deeply influenced more by my irrational fears of Barry Andrews thanks to an overactive imagination, but still. Am I that blind? It's kind of put a damper on my enthusiasm about The Singing Tree because I was drawing more from Tom Hardy for a human Cadmus than I was Barry Andrews. Not saying B isn't human, god no. He's a good soul. I love him dearly. It's just that I've seen more expression in Tom Hardy's eyes than in Barry's, his being an actor and all, and that bespeaks a humanity that Cadmus has not yet come to grips with, but is learning and will learn more with each consecutive companion. So here's a little poll. Please be honest and comment on your decision if you feel a need to. Maybe I'm too close to the situation to "get it." I don't know. I need the help of objective souls.

I've also added a picture of Mr. Andrews for those who aren't sure what he looks like (like [livejournal.com profile] stacye13).

[Poll #1705409]

It's funny that I addressed Cadmus' sexuality yesterday and this morning I discovered that Tom Hardy mentioned experimenting sexually as a young man. The overlap is gratifying to me and makes what I'm trying to do here all the more enjoyable and realistic for me. Cadmus will be taking both female and male companions and he will be doing more than hunting with them. There's all manner of debauchery in store, if I have my way, all involving blood, of course.

In the meantime, I want to try to finish the first story of Isobel today. The next story in collection will the tale of Artus, a young mortal taken under Cadmus' dark wing and taught the art of the Vampire. Needless to say, it will end badly but, I hope, deliciously.
tinhuviel: (Angry Writer)
That is the question. I did NaNoWriMo last year, writing what turned out to be half of The Blood Crown last year. I won the competition, got my certificate and winner icon, and all that good stuff. This year, I'm finished with The Vampire Relics trilogy, so I've nothing more to write of that. What would I write about? I'm seriously asking anyone reading this. Comment and tell me what you think I should write about.

That's me. Since my tooth basically split in two and half of it came out, I know they're going to remove what's left. I hate to have teeth pulled. Feeling that tug and hearing that suction and cracking when the tooth is loosened and removed gets on my last nerve. I have some nerve meds that I'm taking before I go see the dentist. At least I have some help with the fright.

Let's have a poll.

Since there's not much going on in my life right now, I'm having difficulty writing about anything other than my writing, which is probably boring the hell out of a lot of people here. Here, in convenient poll format. Niiiiice.

After a little over a month and a half of typing, angsting, copious Cheerwine-imbibing, friend-abusing, worthless Tweeting, and a thousand other transgressions of which I cannot fully comprehend, I have completed "The Sainted Confessor."... At a whopping 38,213 words, the story itself will be a section of the book, broken down into chapters, which is what I'm about to finish completing now. Then off to [livejournal.com profile] gunslingaaahhh it goes! Now I'd posted some of "The Sainted Confessor" earlier in it's non-proofed, non-edited form. Do you want me to post the rest of it, or do you bloody care?

I have rehauled my Profile page, taking away a lot of the hoo-ha that made it look totally ridiculous and keeping the stuff that makes it look only marginally ridiculous. It was time for a change anyway. I added a bunch more comments people have made about me. Truly, I'm perplexed about some people people making references to dead people as though I were the Dexter of South Carolina. I haven't honed my skills well enough for that!

Anyway, here's the page. If it looks more than a little marginally ridiculous, please let me know. And, if you want to have your say about your good ole pal Tin, just go fill out my poll here: http://tinhuviel.livejournal.com/2067510.html

A Writer's Block LJ supplied for us a few days ago had to do with your favourite quote. I participated in that one, but I got to thinking about a favourite quote from some of my own writing. I believe that every writer should have a particular fondness for their work and their characters. Now, I have a love/fear relationship with Cadmus Pariah, but he did say something in The Chalice that happens to be my favourite quote out of everything I've ever written. I remember typing it up for the first time, in a fever of writing desperation. It was like I was channeling Cadmus, which is most often the case when I write him. That said, I wonder if this quote is something I thought up or something I wrote down from Cadmus telling it to me. It's weird when your creations take on a life of their own.

Anyway, here's my favourite quote from my own collection of writing:
“I have endured torments you cannot yet imagine. I have climbed mountains to attain greatness in body and spirit. I have dug to the depths of the Earth to learn the secrets of Creation. I have flourished on the Blood of my people and the blood of legends. I have slept in the arms of the infernal and walked a path of hopelessness. I dwell in Nothing and Nothing dwells within me. My god is castigation and I am the hand of god.”

Anyway, if you're a writer, I want to know what your favourite quote you've ever written may be be. You can tell it to me in the attached poll or in comments. The poll only allows for 255 characters, spaces included, so do feel free to comment instead if your passages is larger than that. I want the whole megillah, not just a snippet due to size constrictions. Also, it'd be great if you'd include this embryonic meme in your own blog. I want to see what other writers think of their work, so don't be ashamed or self-conscious! Write!

I Voted!

Oct. 23rd, 2008 03:45 pm
tinhuviel: (Geeks for Obama)
For Barack Obama, Joe Biden, all the local Democrats (all THREE of them!), as well as Ren Hoek, Caspar the Ghost, Space Ghost, Bugs Bunny (always a poll fave!), and myself, because I couldn't think of any other Toons at that particular moment and I just wanted to see "Tinhuviel" on the ballot. HA!

So let me explain. Aunt Tudi gets to vote absentee because she's disabled. We found out the last time I took her to vote that I can vote as well, because I bring Aunt Tudi to vote. Today was the day. We had to wait about two hours to vote because the lines were so long, but you could feel the energy of determination in the room. As much as I hate it, I also love an election year, especially when so much is at stake. So why did I end up voting for so many cartoon characters, including myself, when this is a Very Serious Election?

It's like this. This is a devastatingly RED state, which means that there were many offices where you had the choice of voting for the incumbent Fascist Republican, or write in your vote. I would rather lick a cheese grater than to vote for a Republican, even if he's running for the office of Yankee Stadium toilet cleaner, which is still too much of a responsibility for anyone Right-leaning. Not that I'm comfortable sitting on a public toilet, but I'd be a little more distrustful of a toilet that had been cleaned by a fucking Nazi, if it had been cleaned at all. So I wrote in my votes in the appropriate sections. That meant I had to call on some old pals like Space Ghost and Bugs. At least I can honestly say that I didn't vote for a single Republican, even by choosing not to vote because I had no choice.

It's moments like that that make me think I should run for some sort of office. At least, then, others like myself wouldn't be presented with the choice of "Stormtrooper" or "Write-In." It'd be worth a shot. So, what do you think?

I think I may have found an agent that fits my needs. Here are her specs:

Jamie Brenner
Artists and Artisans
, 104 W. 29th St. 11th Floor, New York NY 10001. Fax: (212)931-8377. E-mail: jamie@artistsandartisans.com. artistsandartisans.com. Prior to becoming an agent, Ms. Brenner spent the past decade in book publishing. Her experience includes literary publicity (HarperCollins Publishers), book selling (BarnesandNoble.com), and manuscript analysis and book scouting for major film companies (Miramax Films, Davis Entertainment). Specializes in: thrillers, horror, women’s fiction, literary fiction, memoir, and books about pop culture/entertainment. She is happy to read first-time writers. The agency represents a broad spectrum of categories, including most genres of adult fiction and nonfiction. How to contact: All fiction queries must include a brief author’s bio, and the setup or premise for the book. Snail mail queries are acceptable, though manuscripts will be not be returned. E-queries should start have the subject line “Query: (Your Title)”. Does not want to receive: screenplays, photo or children’s books. Responds in 2 weeks to queries; 4 weeks to manuscripts. Terms: Receives 15% commission on domestic sales; 20% commission on foreign sales.

If I did contact her, it would be with just The Chalice, then follow up with the other two portions of The Vampire Relics, The Blood Crown and The Augury of Gideon, which I'd really prefer to do. Three small books under one's belt sounds much better than just one big book that may not have a follow-up at all. I don't know. I'm so torn.

I've decided to hold off on hunting for an agent for The Chalice until I've gotten a good chunk of The Blood Crown written. Why? Because I'm combining The Chalice, The Blood Crown, and The Augury of Gideon to make one large book. Why? Because The Chalice is really too short to be seriously considered for publication. [livejournal.com profile] morriganwind backed me up on this suspicion I've had for a good two years, so it's back to the drawing board, or writing board as 't'were. Besides, this will allow me to flesh out some of the words featured in my lexicon and some of the characters featured in one of my appendices. Like Faust, may he rest in peace.

Already, I've added what I've written on The Blood Crown to The Chalice and I've expanded my word count from just under 99k to 103,493 words. The thing is, I can't keep the title of the book The Chalice, since I'm including all the relics in the new version. I'm not certain what to name the book. I'm leaning in the direction of The Relics Three or The Vampire Relics, but I'm just not sure yet. So maybe a poll is in order.

Not much

Not much going on today here at work. I'm a bit bored and anxious that I'm not doing what I should be. And anxious that I'm not learning at the speed I should be. And anxious that I'm not measuring up to expectations like a should be. Everyone seems happy with my performance so far but, being the anal-retentive Virgo that I am, I'm unsatisfied with how things have gone so far. I'm wholly uncertain that I would want to hire me if I were in the position of Brian. Then again, if I were in the position of Brian, I wouldn't have animals heads adorning my office walls. Meep.

I need to give this place a name, like "The Pit" was the cognomen for BMG/Arvato. I was thinking maybe "The Waystation" since it's a transfer and storage company. Dunno. What do you dear readers think? Is the Waystation good or do you have your own idearrrrrs?
[Poll #744912]

I also need a decent work icon, something involving a big honkin' truck.

I'll be dealing with that this weekend in between loading music onto Barry Andrews' website. Oh yes, I have work to do, no doubts there. But, like I told The Bald One, it's a labour of love. I'm trying to figure out in my mind how I want to arrange the page. I'd like to present pictures that best represent each song. The picture would lead to the download and the title of the song would lead you to the lyrics. Does that sound like a good way to do it?
