The elderly usually don't fear death because it's a welcome respite from all the memories of irretrievable moments, irredeemable regrets, and loved ones lost to the irreversible threads of Time.

After many depressing conversations with my Grandparents I'd have to agree with this. I don't know if it's a bad thing though; and I always sort of had the outlook that to fear death in your prime (at a reproductive age) is quite natural. Whereas to accept it in old age and decline is likewise natural and probably makes it easier to... well... die.
