Preserving Cadmus
Dec. 16th, 2002 03:16 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
My Cadmus, born out of irrational fear of BA and a love for Vampires....he has languished of late so I've decided to preserve the best of his tales in my LJ so there won't be any fire drills like the one with The Shroud when my computer crashed and I had no back-up that I knew of. Thankfully, I found a copy of the story on an old 3.5 and saved it in several areas and on several discs, not to mention my Live Journal.
So, I want to keep Cadmus 'alive' in the same way. Now, before anyone who reads this might think that BA would be offended or otherwise scandalised by my blatant usage of his appearance and certain mannerisms for Cadmus, that's not the case. I came clean months ago and he was rather amused and impressed by it all. Needless to say, over the years, Cadmus became his own person (as characters often are prone to do) and cut the cord that connected BA and him. He still lingers on the dark parametres of my mind and will, I'm sure, demand to be written more stories in the near future. Until that time, I'm preserving here his dark history and perhaps a tale or two of note. Of course, these stories were for my own enjoyment and the enjoyment of friends who had a special interest in Cadmus. They're big and ornate and dramatic words ~ the like of which most writing coaches would cringe. But it's the feeling of Cadmus' world so it must be expressed that way, at least it has to be for me. If anyone out there reads it and think it sucks, well so be it. As Hexina said: "No skin off my breast!"
Cadmus (the) Pariah information
Born in the last tribal days of Gaul. Product of alchemical conjuring by the Black Magus. Original name: Cadmar, also called Goidelica by his mentor.
Renamed Cadmus to reflect his connection to the classical era from whence his mentor came and it also coincides with his dragonslayer status. Given the name 'Pariah' by his arch-enemy Orphaeus Cygnus in the late 1800's as an indication that he was outcast from the Hive of the Beast, being an anomalous creature, not true to the vampire way. This was also a fulfillment of prophecy as written in 'The Augury of Gideon'.
Nature: Although the denizens of the Great Hive consider him to be the manifestation of Evil, Cadmus is actually neutral in his motivations. His aim is eradication of the Impure by way of ingestion. Being the biological child of the Hive Queen and King, and the alchemical child of his surrogate dragon matrice and the Black Magus himself (this makes him of Elven descent, but with both Human and Draconian qualities), Cadmus is the first and only living Vampire, actually aging as time goes by, but at such a slow rate as to not be noticeable. He is incapable of drinking mortal blood, depending solely on Vampire Blood. The less he has to drink, the more he ages. Cadmus is in possessionof the Chalic of Kelat ~ a cup fashioned by Kelat in an attempt to reverse the Blood Spell on the Vampire Hive. This chalice contains a drop of Kelat's tainted Blood and it transforms mortal blood into Vampire Blood. With this chalice, Cadmus keeps a supply of food by way of his 'human livestock' which he bleeds regularly.
Emotions are alien to Cadmus ~
Cadmus was led to believe in his incapability to 'feel by Nissius his mentor, an agent of the Black Magus. When he comes close to an emotion, he terms the experience a Philosophical Apex. He draws strength from Void. He finds emotions fascinating and perceives that he may attain true emotion upon the eradication of all that is 'impure'. Until that time Cadmus 'samples' emotions by stealing souls. In addition to taking their blood, Cadmus also extracts the souls of his human herd and keeps them hostage in the Void of his spirit so that he may sense imprints of emotion and behave accordingly in social situations.
Appearance: Although several hundred years old, Cadmus appears to be in his mid 30's. He shaves his head and gravitates to darker garments (sometimes crimson), giving him a priestly disposition.
Cadmus has very large expressive eyes with odd tendency to absorb rather than reflect light. His eyes have been immortalised in Byzantine mosaics by artists who beheld his angelic face. His lips are full and naturally, deceptively, upturned at the corners. Unlike the Undead, all four of Cadmus' canines are sharp in enlongated, fit for not only biting, but also for tearing of the flesh. It is in his nature to tear his prey asunder, but he tends to rend his victims in a manner fitting the prolongation of torment.
Cadmus moves with a boneless fluidity that even other Vampires find difficult, if not impossible, to emulate. It is this easy motion that draws prey to him, combined with the power of unearthly Glamour.
When he chooses to move in public, Cadmus wars a fine periwinkle powder on his scalp and colours his lips blue. There is no conceivable reason why it Cadmus does this, but it is suspicioned that the act is a private ritual whose meaning is known only to him.
Affiliations: Cadmus has one thrall -- Jonathan Macolocek ~~ and one Chylde, also his bride -- Eve.
Jonathan is thoroughly faithful to Cadmus and will do his bidding unto death.
Eve despises Cadmus as much as she loves him, and she is always plotting his demise. But, in his presence, she is unquestioningly devoted to her husband. She was foretold by Gideon, being called the Garden of Blood, pure in her immaculate impurity. She is also called Eve Inviolata.
Cadmus was at one time aligned with the Knights Templar, helping to form the shadowy blood cult, the Cult of the Head. Responsible for the fall of the Knights and the subsequent Grail Societies by using the Chalice of Kelat to enslave the warrior priests. His mass enslavement of willing subjects continues to this day under the guise of the Order of the Crimson Cup wherein he is known as the benevolent Landon Dunlevy, one of his many aliases. This cult is managed by Jonathan and is notorious for its members holding blood orgies to "Feed the Chalice", thus supplying Cadmus with unlimited nourishment.
These cult members are Cadmus' eyes and ears in seeking out other vampires. If ever a member of the Hive is near a cluster of cultists, they will alert Cadmus.
