Yesterday, I had my colonoscopy. Aunt Tudi and [livejournal.com profile] clumsycake accompanied me to the ambulatory centre for the procedure. We arrived a little before 1 PM. After I filled out my paperwork and waited for about 30 minutes, the nurse called me back and bade me pee in a cup for a pregnancy test, then undress and don my hospital gown and cap. I did as she said as I didn't see that I had much of a choice.

After my test came back negative and I was laid out on my stretcher, the nurse called [livejournal.com profile] clumsycake and Aunt Tudi back to sit with me while we waited for Dr. Sovenyhazy. My procedure was to be at 2:30, but the doc was late, so we didn't get started until a little after 3. When the nurse began to administer the anesthetic, I asked how long it would take for me to be out and she said, "almost instantly." So I asked what would happen if I fought it? She told me, "you'll lose." And that's the last thing I remember.

About 45 minutes later, I was awake and being told by Dr. Sovenyhazy that my colon was beautiful, as colon's go. No sign of colitis, just pink healthy skin. He did find one little thing that may have been a polyp, which he removed, but he's so unconcerned about it, I get to wait 5 years before my next colonoscopy. Very good! I should have health insurance again by then. I'm supposed to go see Dr. Sovenyhazy for a recheck, and then it will all be over.

The nurse let me get dressed and escorted me to the car. The entire staff at the ambulatory centre was incredibly sweet. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, considering what I was going through. I crawled into the back seat of the car and [livejournal.com profile] clumsycake drove to the Golden Corral. I had promised her and Aunt Tudi that I'd feed them after the procedure. So off we went. Mind, I hadn't had a bite to eat since 10 September, so I was just a slight bit peckish.....and thirsty! Omigawd, so thirsty..... When we got to the restaurant, I was the first to go get food. I usually wait for everyone else, but not today. I got a piece of grilled salmon and some mashed potatoes. It was savoury heaven. Aunt Tudi and [livejournal.com profile] clumsycake noshed enthusiastically. Good company, good conversation, and good food makes for a very positive experience. The only downside was that the air the doctor had pumped into me during the procedure was burning to come out and I had no choice but let it rip. Needless to say, I wasn't the best dinner partner.

After eating, we came back to my house for a nice visit. I sprawled out on the couch and did my best dead woman impersonation for the remainder of the day and all night. I didn't get up today until well after noon. Today, I'm so sore, I can hardly move...and my head hurts. I'm thinking it's the residual effects of the anesthetic. So today, I do nothing. Nothing!

And, now, for some pictures!

[livejournal.com profile] clumsycake's and Aunt Tudi's picnic spread as they waited for the doc to finish the "procedure." See? I'm in the back being violated and they're out front singing "party all the time."

*giggle* That sounds about right. I can think of few songs that are better to sing while sitting in doctor's office.

If you were to make wallet-sized copies of the scan would they be ... semi-colons?

Thanks for letting us know you're ok. I was getting rather worried, so I'm really happy to know that you're fine. I lost my paw-paw to colon cancer when I was 12 and it broke my heart. Even moreso cause no one even told me he was sick till after he was gone. Still a scary subject for me and prolly always will be.

Cute pic of [info]clumsycake too btw. She looks sweet.

She's very much a hoot and sweet as well. Sorry you lost someone to colon cancer. That's a real bitch.

I am so glad everything went so well. :)

Banana pudding is to die for. *yum*

[livejournal.com profile] clumsycake looks like Wendy the Snapple lady. One of my fave tv personalities. :)

I thought the exact same thing when I saw the picture..."Holy...is that Wendy The Snapple Lady?"

Glad to hear everything is cool with yer innards.

My wife and I create excuses to go down south just so we can eat at Golden Corral and Cracker Barrel. I could eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at Golden Corral everyday. Don't have either up here in the heathen north.

I always loved the Old Country Buffet because they served real mashed potatoes. When they left the area, I was so sad. But now we have Golden Corral (pretty new to the area) and I am once again in spud heaven. C'mon down and we'll share victuals!

LJ ate my well-crafter and humorous comment :p Anyway, yay for healthy colon! And yay for giant feeds after! This is what Paul and Steve do when they have their biennial procedures, complete with requisite pooting.

i have discovered (quite by accident; i'm not clever) that if you can stop pounding the keyboard in frustration and just hit the BACK button of your browser the comment window you just filled out return -- WITH YOUR POST STILL IN IT. (ain't technology grand?)

anyhow, after years of cursing uselessly at LJ, i have found a great work-around, courtesy of the often-disparaged MIE. i bet other browsers do it too.

now back to your regular "tin" comments (hugs on getting past the camera, tin!)

Nana puddin' and pretty pink colon, what could be better? Ok, maybe not having to go thru a colonoscopy in the first place would be better, but still, glad that's over with.

Phew! Glad you are finished with that, checked out fine, etc. When I had a colos. last year first they gave me Valium, then I saw the nurse getting ready to put some more stuff in the IV and asked her what it was. When she said "Phenagrin" (spelling>?) I asked if I had to have that, it always makes me so grogged out afterwards, slightly nauseous to boot. I'm a maddening patient...questioning everything.

I could so go somewhere with the picnic and violation comment but will not out of respect... (yeaaahhhh, riiiigght)
