Yesterday, I had my colonoscopy. Aunt Tudi and
clumsycake accompanied me to the ambulatory centre for the procedure. We arrived a little before 1 PM. After I filled out my paperwork and waited for about 30 minutes, the nurse called me back and bade me pee in a cup for a pregnancy test, then undress and don my hospital gown and cap. I did as she said as I didn't see that I had much of a choice.
After my test came back negative and I was laid out on my stretcher, the nurse called
clumsycake and Aunt Tudi back to sit with me while we waited for Dr. Sovenyhazy. My procedure was to be at 2:30, but the doc was late, so we didn't get started until a little after 3. When the nurse began to administer the anesthetic, I asked how long it would take for me to be out and she said, "almost instantly." So I asked what would happen if I fought it? She told me, "you'll lose." And that's the last thing I remember.
About 45 minutes later, I was awake and being told by Dr. Sovenyhazy that my colon was beautiful, as colon's go. No sign of colitis, just pink healthy skin. He did find one little thing that may have been a polyp, which he removed, but he's so unconcerned about it, I get to wait 5 years before my next colonoscopy. Very good! I should have health insurance again by then. I'm supposed to go see Dr. Sovenyhazy for a recheck, and then it will all be over.
The nurse let me get dressed and escorted me to the car. The entire staff at the ambulatory centre was incredibly sweet. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, considering what I was going through. I crawled into the back seat of the car and
clumsycake drove to the Golden Corral. I had promised her and Aunt Tudi that I'd feed them after the procedure. So off we went. Mind, I hadn't had a bite to eat since 10 September, so I was just a slight bit peckish.....and thirsty! Omigawd, so thirsty..... When we got to the restaurant, I was the first to go get food. I usually wait for everyone else, but not today. I got a piece of grilled salmon and some mashed potatoes. It was savoury heaven. Aunt Tudi and
clumsycake noshed enthusiastically. Good company, good conversation, and good food makes for a very positive experience. The only downside was that the air the doctor had pumped into me during the procedure was burning to come out and I had no choice but let it rip. Needless to say, I wasn't the best dinner partner.
After eating, we came back to my house for a nice visit. I sprawled out on the couch and did my best dead woman impersonation for the remainder of the day and all night. I didn't get up today until well after noon. Today, I'm so sore, I can hardly move...and my head hurts. I'm thinking it's the residual effects of the anesthetic. So today, I do nothing. Nothing!
And, now, for some pictures!

clumsycake's and Aunt Tudi's picnic spread as they waited for the doc to finish the "procedure." See? I'm in the back being violated and they're out front singing "party all the time."

My wife and I create excuses to go down south just so we can eat at Golden Corral and Cracker Barrel. I could eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at Golden Corral everyday. Don't have either up here in the heathen north.
