Weight Survey

tinhuvielI found this in a journal kept by a Gastric Bypass patient. Since I'm a total survey nut, I found it appropriate to fill it out. It's pretty darned depressing so read at your own risk, those of you who come across it.
When was the last time you shopped in a regular clothing store, like Mervyns, Target, Kohls? about a year
When was the last time you wore size 8 underpants? about 5 years
Do you have more than 1 belt in your drawer that you have never worn? I don't own any belts
Can you shower in the communal room at the local health club? no
Can you swim? Do you? With normal sized people? I don't know how to swim
Could you take an aerobics class and stay to the end? no
When was the last time you rode a roller coaster? 2001, but barely
When you fly, do you have to ask for a seat belt extension? yes
Does your car seat belt cut you across your neck? yes
When was the last time you could wear "one size fits most?" about 4 years ago
When you go upstairs, does your heart pound until you think it's going to jump out of your chest? Does it hurt? yes
Can you climb a flight of stairs without pain in your knees? no
Two flights? no
How many times do you stop to breath? I refuse to stop for breath...it's a pride thing...so I nearly pass out instead
Are you sweating and heart pounding at the top of the stairs? yes
Have you ever looked longingly at people using scooters in Walmart? no
When was the last time you went to the beach? 3 years
In a bathing suit? To swim? And not thought people were looking at you? never
Do you buy your clothes in a department store, or is Lane Bryan, Dress Barn Woman, Fashion Bug Plus, and Roman's the stores you go to? I haven't bought clothes in about 3 years. I refuse to buy anything else, even though I'm busting out the clothes I *do* have
When was the last time you had on sexy underwear? about 5 years
Is your neck bigger than most people's heads? dunno...probably
Is your leg bigger than most people's waists? that would be a safe assumption
Have you run out of diet solutions, having tried every one of them in the past, only to fail? oh yeah...
If you had a medical emergency, would the paramedics have to struggle to get you into the rescue vehicle? no doubt
Could they perform CPR on you, or because of your fat, would they have to use paddles? I don't know
Have you ever cried because of you are overweight? all the damned time
Have you ever lost a partner or spouse because you are overweight? a better question would be: have you had no or very few partners because of your weight?
Have you ever lost a job because you are overweight? no
Have you ever been denied a job or promotion because of your size? YES
Have you ever gone into therapy for weight related problems like depression or sexual dysfunction? yes
Was the therapist overweight and struggling, or was he/she normal weight, with no idea what you were going through? no idea, but he was very understanding
Have you ever been in therapy, only to find that you're listening more to the therapist's problems than yours? yes
Have you ever taken more than one prescription drug for weight control? yes and now I fear for the health of my heart as a result
If there were a fire in your building and you were on the fifth floor, would you be able to go down the stairs in less than three minutes? probably not
Do you have health problems related to overweight
-- like diabetes, arthritis, knee or hip joint pain, heart palpitations, irregular heart beat, etc arthritis, knee pain, back pain, irregular heart beat, high cholesterol, and borderline high blood pressure.
Do you think (or hope) a thyroid pill will help all your problems? no
Can you look at yourself naked in the mirror, or do you avert your eyes? I'll look at length and berate myself. Punishment is my middle name
When was the last time someone other than your partner/husband/wife/children told you that you were beautiful? Pretty? Pleasingly plump? some online folks said as much a couple of months ago because they were trying to make me feel better. Very sweet are my online friends.
Any compliment about your appearance at all? Lately? no, only when I lost weight the last time and all the superficial creeps started flocking around me telling me how good I looked. I HATE that.
Can you still fit behind the wheel of a car without pushing the seat way, way back? I squeeze in regardless
Would you consider it dangerous to ride with a driver who can't reach the pedals? yes
Can you reach them easily? yes, thankfully
Do the seats in your chairs and sofas have indentations where you sit? Do you crush the seat cushions when you sit? yes
Has anyone ever asked you not to sit on a chair? yes
Do you understand that it is because you might break it? yes
When was the last time you tied your shoes without sitting down? it's been about 4 years
Do you ever call your husband/wife/children to help tie your shoes? I asked my b/f to tie my shoe just the other day
Does your shoe wardrobe consist mostly of slip-ins? 1 pair of uncomfortable tie shoes and 1 pair of Birks
If you were asked to go sailing, could you? I dunno. What does it entail?
Does your greatest night out (date) consist of an "all you can eat" restaurant? no I hate them
Can you fit comfortably in the seats at your local theater? not anymore
Can you slide easily into a booth at a restaurant? no
Can you clean yourself thoroughly after normal bodily functions? only because I'm double jointed
Can you sit without your knees bowing out to the side? no
When was the last time you crossed your legs? about 4 years
Do you ever wonder where the beauty and joy went? all the time
When was the last time you DIDN'T wear queen/king size? about 4 years ago
Have children ever been afraid of you? yes
Do they run to hug you, or do they hang back? I hang back.
Did you ever consider that it might be because your weight frightens them? probably
Do you want to be there when your children have grandchildren? I don't want children, so this doesn't apply
Do you want to be able to play with them, really play with them? no!
Could you buy a fancy, beautiful mother-of-the-bride dress, and be comfortable in it? no
Would you look gorgeous in it? no
When was the last time you could cuddle a child IN YOUR LAP? never wanted to!
Has your son or daughter had to fight a kid because they called you fatty? n/a
If your child were your size, would you be okay with it, or would you do whatever you could to help him/her achieve a normal weight? Including surgery? yes
If so, why not you? Don't you deserve what your child deserves? yes
Do you fear the surgery? yes
do you also fear:
Heart attack? (At your weight, you probably won't make it) yes
Amputation? (It's in the cards) yes
Kidney failure? (Wait It's coming) yes
Stroke? (Reduced blood flow in overweight people & high blood pressure it's a probability) yes
A wheelchair existence? ('Nuff said) yes
A really short life span? (Almost guaranteed) yes
