World, meet Motley!

She likes my big fluffy bed and is looking forward to sleeping it with everyone else once she's out of the intro pen.

In this picture, you can see how she's licked a lot of her fur off near her backside. It's slowly growing back now.

She can't imagine that big sister Shmoop was ever as tiny as she is now. She's treading softly around the giant feline.

Smidgen begins the pecking order process by displaying herself in all her glory. Motley flattens her ears in abject awe.

All in all, it's been a pretty decent introduction for Motley. Of course, she's still in her pen for the most part and has her personal play time in the isolation of the bathroom. By Tuesday, though, I'm thinking she can roam about the house and learn where she fits in. I've already asked Aunt Tudi to be patient with Smidgen and Shmoop because it's inevitable that they will give Motley a few smacks here and there. That's cat society and they'll have to work it out in their own feline way. We can't interfere without doing more harm than good.

Riley is already excited about having a new kitten to play uncle to. He's such a big softie, that dog.

I'm satisfied with our progress so far. ::nods:: Motley has gone from being a mostly feral kitten who ran every time she saw us to a mostly tame baby who runs up to my hand and begins purring the minute the opportunity arises. She's already beginning to learn her name, too. I can say "Motley" and she'll meow back and rub along the pen. Right now, she's just marking territory but I've found her doing the "you're family" head butt as well. Very good!

awwww. that's too precious. we have a "motley look-a-like" in our backyard feral pride. we named her Patches. she's got more pure white on her sides, but the same "mixed blessings" all around. AND a whole tail. ha ha she was one of the 2004 kittens, so she's almost grown now and "playing aunt" to the 2005 babies (who are getting BIG). sunday morning i was the first one up so i took the outdoor cat food from the bin and put it into their bowls (11 cats, 6 bowls). it is ONLY at that time, when they're distracted by Purina Cat Chow that i get to actually touch/love on them. otherwise they flatten their ears and hisssss at me -- they understand the hierarchy. i am the big Cat around here.

It's odd how they accept us on a certain level, isn't it? I think they accept people who marginally understand their subtle language. It seems you definitely do, so good on you!
