Much to [livejournal.com profile] falkenna's joy when she reads this, Aunt Tudi and I picked up the forms we need to file for our passports. Once I get my 401k money, things should move relatively quickly from there. I'm still looking at travelling to England in April, probably late April. Once the passports are in hand and the flights are booked, a more definite date will be available.

As the time grows closer, I have the urge to get an extra memory card for the camera. If I keep the pics to 640x480, I can take around 1300 pictures if I get an extra memory card the size of the one I already have. That's pretty darned sweet. And I would really like to get some Quicktime movies of B for the site. Now that I have a buttload of available space, I think it'd be pretty groovy to have B in motion for all those interested to behold and swoon along with me.

I also have the urge to get an MP3 player to listen to whilst on the plane, but I don't know if I should splurge that much. I'm already going to be getting a new computer for school. I don't need an MP3 player. But having one for the trip would be sweeter than sweet. And I could store songs I want to play for [livejournal.com profile] falkenna and Barry. Hell, I may make a poll about this and get other people's opinion. Yeah, that's the ticket.

And there's the issue of getting a decent outfit for when I meet The Bald One. Something with a really high collar and a kevlar hat and corset. Something black or black and red. Something breathtaking that will make me look smaller, but also very imposing and maybe even a a little threatening. With matching boots that can conceal knives. Word.

MP3 players have come down in price a lot since Ipods made their start. I got mine for $99 and it's a 30 GB one. Look around on Amazon and see what you can find for specials. Look at the Creative Zen jukeboxes. Those are good. Shop around...don't get Ipod just for namebrand sake. :)

and if you truly want to geek out...once you get your mp3 player and load it up with all your music, you can get an FM modulator and play your mp3 player in the car on road trips or anywhere you want without the hassle of carrying around every cd you own.

that's EXACTLY what I want.

I am in love with mine. It's like a pirate radio station with nothing but my music that plays only in my car. :)

These are great in theory, but make sure you can try before you buy. Not all models work well with all cars. Since my FM antenna is actually on my roof, the metal between the roof and the FM transmitter plugged into the iPod act as an effective shield, so those things don't really work in my car.

Unless I drive around with my arm hanging out the window holding my iPod.

Far better (if you have a cassette deck) is to get a special cassette with a wire that plugs into your MP3 player's headphone jack, and then the cassette goes into your deck. The sound quality is much better, and the special cassettes are significantly less expensive than little FM transmitters.

Phooey. I don't have a cassette deck.

That's the sick marriage of my mind watching Law & Order whilst thinking about travelling to the UK.

If you got a laptop as the computer for school, you wouldn't need an mp3 player.

That's definitely what I'm getting, but I don't want to take the computer with me. I'm too paranoid.

For REALLY cheap (like $30-$50) you could get one of those cd/mp3 players. If you can burn cds, you can put like 100-150 mp3s on a cd. True this is not as small and cute as an iPod, but it works just fine. I have been using mine for 2-3 years. It is great for plane trips, and I guess you could hook it up to the car stereo, though I have never bothered to get the car kit.

High collars and knives aren't going to protect you when he devours your soul and uses your bones to pick his teeth!!!

1. Woohoo, get that passport!
2. Reenactment group 20th birthday party on Saturday 29th April. I really don't know if you want to be there (you're welcome), but I will be.
3. btw, I have a hefty electrical converter (since I bought my laptop in the US) if you need to use rechargers and such.
4. Don't forget we're going shopping here when you first arrive.
5. MP3 players are proof of the existence of God. No CD player could be half so convenient and thoroughly lovely. Once you've closed your palm around all your favourite albums at once, you will never look back. The models are probably all different, but over here Sony is currently the best non-iPod (according to our equivalent of Consumer Reports). (But I was told those cassette things don't work with MP3s, maybe it's a British thing.)
