St. Paddy & Other Grave Issues
Mar. 17th, 2003 08:33 amWell, seems we'll be going to war any minute. Despite worldwide protestations, the Powers that Be feel it prudent to waste human lives, planetary resources, and any chance humanity might currently have to prove to any galactic observers that we have the potential to be an intelligent species. What a bloody waste.
Steph proposed that the Shrub may be ha-Satan incarnate as prophesied by the Bible. She speculated that this Devil man would come to us as a man of God and take over the world, making it a place of nightmare. She could be right. Who am I to say? I'm not so confident about it, as I feel that prophecy is usually 'damaged goods' from the get-go. How can something truly be the fulfillment of prophecy since there are so many who believe so vehemently that they are more than willing to manipulate the playing board, as 't'were, to manifest the original proclamation? Then again, perhaps fulfillment by this method was part of the original prophecy all along. The mind boggles. One thing I do know is that people who are part of a dying society are quite prone to viewing the world through apocalyptic-coloured lenses. The Roman Empire was awash in doomsday foretellings for some time before its fall. It's just part of human and societal nature, I think. I also believe that we're in the throes of the end of the American Empire and that visions of Armageddon will be in the peripheries of American sight for years to come until we, too, fade away into something other than a world power. It's the cycle of things and cannot be denied or avoided. All this is how I see it and it could be skewed beyond all belief. Time alone will really tell.
In other news, I'm draped in varying shades of green today. Not that I'm a huge proponent of St. Patrick, who was quite instrumental in the persecution of Irish Paganry in favour of the One True Church ~ I just don't fancy being pinched by anyone. If anyone ventured to pinch me, I'm afraid I'd have to knock their empty head clear off their shoulders, and that's not a good work ethic, since I'm here at work now.
Yesterday was a lovely lazy day spent with Llew. He left around 6:30 last night, all glowy and mellow. As he has Important Bank Matters to which to attend, I told him I'd call this morning around 8 to wake him up. I did that and promised to call again around 8:30 to make certain the wake-up call took.
Here I am at work again. I didn't want to get up. Falling asleep halfway through 'Children of Dune' didn't make me happy at all and I have the feeling I'm going to do the same thing tonight. Missing films based on the books that helped me understand the role of religion and politics in the control of empires and villages alike doesn't make Tin a happy camper. I should have taped it. The good thing is that SciFi shows their miniseries about 12,000 times, so I have the chance to catch it all again.
Anyway....work. Seems like we'll be doing a great huge project for some 'American Idol' movie called From Justin to Kelly. Brilliant. Drain a passing fad for all its worth is what I say! What's so sad is that this movie will probably be a raging success. How sad for us all. At least it will ensure job security for myself and my buds at RCA...for a while... Whee!
OK, off to work for me.
