Shriekback and Movie Madness
May. 16th, 2004 12:41 amIn late April, I got this letter from a screenwriter and novelist asking about the possibility of including Shriekmusic in one or both of the movies that are going to be made from his screenplays. Part of the letter said:
This just thrilled me beyond all human comprehension. It excites and inspires me to find fellow Shriek fans who are as passionate about their music as I am, especially when the music has compelled them to create themselves and desire their own creations to merge in some way with the Shriek phenomenon. (yes, I'm very fan-girlish tonight, so shoot me, dammit!) I forwarded the letter to Barry and wrote the dude back thanking him for the interest and asking him to please be patient if he didn't hear anything back immediately, but to let me know if he heard nothing at all. That particular time was a bit iffy for B and I didn't want to chase him too much until a certain period of time had passed.
This evening, I checked his website and saw this on the front page:
No, Patrick, it doesn't get any better ~ I have to agree! I soooo hope this works out for both Patrick and Barry/Shriekback. There's few bands out there that seem to just be meant to be heard in Film and Shriekback is one of them, in my humble opinion. Goddess knows, they've inspired too many films in my mind to count on everyone's fingers and toes.
I'd love to see articles in Hollywood Reporter and Variety and Rolling Stone and other mags with people just gushing about Shriekback and what a fine job and all that.....
Maybe I'm just dreaming...but I'd love the opportunity to talk with a few folks over the next several weeks and see if connections can be made.

The incredibly talented Barry Andrews of Shriekback, the amazing group that scored "Manhunter" (Michael Mann's original Dr. Hannibal Lecktor movie from 1986) has voiced an interest and requested script copies to read.
It just doesn't get any better.
