Surrounded
May. 31st, 2009 03:58 pmI'm surrounded and there's no escaping. Truly, I'm surrounded.....by fan-freakin'-talented writers! How'd I get to be so lucky, to be in the company of such talent and creativity? I don't see how I merit it, but I'm humbled and grateful for each talented presence in my life. ::points at everyone who's shared his/her writing with me with the Finger of Doom:: Don't..Ever..Stop..Writing. I mean it. I have a can of Writers Whoop Ass right here with me, ready to open at any given minute if the need arises. Just remember that.
Carry on.
Carry on.
Sleep Update
May. 31st, 2009 05:12 pmI slept some last night, but never got in deep. It was one of those nights where I was asleep, but I knew I was asleep. My mind never stopped, going through songs, snippets of movies, math equations (I never can figure this out, because I can barely add 2 + 2, thank you Big Brother!), jots of writing, what have you. I'd rather not sleep at all than to have my mind racing constantly while it pretends to sleep. I always "wake up" with a pounding headache from clenching my teeth while my mind spins out of control. This is the third night in a row with no sleep to speak of. As a result, I snapped earlier with Aunt Tudi. She just kept pressing my buttons and refused to leave me alone about getting things done but, when your body refuses to move and your mind is just not working, it's kind of hard to get things done. And I lost my temper. We had a screamfest, which is really unusual for me. I'm not a shouter. I tend to just nod and smile and calmly request that I not be yelled at because the Father Unit used to yell when I was a kid and it kinda developed in me an aversion to such behaviour. But I really snapped and I said - no, I shouted - some really out of line things at Aunt Tudi. What distressed me even more were some of my mannerisms when I lost it. Not a good sign. Anyway, that was about 4 hours ago and she's been asleep for the most part ever since. When she woke up a couple of hours ago, I apologised. She did the same, then turned over on the couch and went back to sleep.
I'd give the world to sleep like that. I'd sell my soul. I'd do anything, anything, anything for a good night's sleep.

Jesus for the Jugular
May. 31st, 2009 06:07 pmWhen I was in England and B came a-visiting
falkenna's house in Brighton, we were all treated to a preview of the Veils sophomore album that would later be called Nux Vomica. There was one song on the album that really stood out to me because it sounded so...Shriekback...but in a totally different way than B's Shriek. Finn truly can shriek and he does it in the song 'Jesus for the Jugular.' Sadly, Nux Vomica was never released Stateside because those evil bastards I used to work for dropped Rough Trade from the American label roster, so I never got the chance to snag the album. Now, I've been hoarding some fundage on iTunes from a gift card I got around the Christmahanukwanzayule season, and it occurred to me that maybe the song might be available there. It was. So I spent 99 cents of my 7 remaining dollars. Three years almost to the day of my hearing this soul-shattering song, I got to hear it again, and I'm very happy about this in one respect, yet kinda freaked by it in another. The song drips of Cadmus, which I really didn't need at the moment, but everything has a reason and purpose, I guess, so there you go. It also struck me as a song I could use in a Joker fic, just for the chaotic sound of the music and for the one line "Would the fox be as quick if he hadn't his hound." I could probably use it in the very dark J-fic I'm writing now, since Bruce Wayne makes an appearance at the beginning of the story to set the letter up. I'll finish it soon if I can get my insomniac head out of my arse.
Anyway, I strongly suggest that anyone reading this give the song a listen. The lyrics are below.
Jesus for the Jugular by the Veils (written by Finn Andrews)
How do you preach the word if you don't know how to read
When they hold your soul once you sign the deed
Would the sun still rise if there's no-one round
Would the fox be as quick if he hadn't his hound
Let him go from me
This whole world spins with her feet off the ground
She'll make the stars applaud when she sits back down
There's a bulls-blooded fountain in the pit of a moan
That I'll summon an eclipse on my way to the lord
Let him go from me
Jesus for the jugular - one at a time
Ain't nobody ever gonna ever have to die

Looking for a DJ
May. 31st, 2009 07:26 pmIn the spirit of my whacked out racing mind, I'm going really random here and wondering if any of people are DJs or good at making mash-ups. Or do you know anyone who can do this?
I have two songs, "Despite Dense Weed" by Shriekback and "Dark Horses" by Thee Caretakers. The two easily overlap each other in their sound, the lyrics, the whole vibe. I even asked Barry once if he wrote "Dark Horses," and he played dumb, which probably means he did 'cos that's what he did with Fluke's "Tosh." I often sing one of the songs while the other is playing, so it would be very cool indeed to have a mash-up of the two songs. I'd so send it to Barry with big HAHA! Deny it now! and then he'd kill me with an emoticon. But I'd die in the very Virgoan self-satisfaction of being right.
Yeah, never pit one Virgo against the other. One will come out bloody and the other will come out DEAD. My Friend Todd, who is also a Virgo, would more than likely agree with this, given our Epic Battles over the years. I've never had a disagreement with Barry because I'm too stricken with fear but the "Despite Dense Weed/Dark Horses" enigma may well be the bone of contention that makes me snap like a teeny-tiny twig.
So. DJ?

House of Klezmer
May. 31st, 2009 07:36 pmQuite possibly the weirdest mash-up I've ever heard. Well worth it, methinks. You be the judge.
Hellz Yeah
May. 31st, 2009 09:27 pmHeath Ledger wins for Best Villain at MTV Awards
And he's saying in the Summerland about all the trophies he's getting, "I'm rackin' 'em up!" I just know it. Well deserved, Heath. Well deserved.

Not just fanfiction
May. 31st, 2009 10:04 pmI don't write just fanfiction. Believe it or not, I've been writing since the age of 5. First the stories were about animals and they were naturally quite juvenile. As I got older, I began writing about people. My first people-driven story was driven by the ELO concept album Time and the characters created in this story were used in subsequent stories that led to the creation of Dannagran Dram. All that started at the age of 13. In 1988, upon meeting my soul mate, I began work on my Vampire stories. In 1990 the Vampire stories took a darker turn by the appearance of Cadmus Pariah. This actually gave me severe writer's block, because I was so afraid of this deadly character inhabiting my head. It wasn't until 1999 that the block was broken by my first encounter with fanfiction. Writing Darth Maul helped me embrace Cadmus Pariah and I began writing again. In 2005, I finished the first draft of The Chalice. In 2007, I finished the second draft. I'm almost finished with draft number three, which will be my final draft. I'm also working on the sequel, The Blood Crown. The majority of The Chalice is posted on
chalice_novel. It's a closed group but, if your interested in reading it, you're more than welcome to join the group. Word of warning, though: the novel is written in a very poetic language, which probably means no agent will touch it to help me get it published. It's also very violent and sexual in parts. So yeah, I'm back to writing fanfiction right now, but writing fanfiction is such a gift. It allows a person to spread their wings and explore characters in such a unique and personal way. It enriches writers, in my opinion, and it helps us explore our own personal worlds with a much better perspective. /end babble
