Okay, so the rest of the story.

So, Idiri.
In the strictest sense she's a peripheral character. At a point about one half of the way between the Fire that destroys most life on Sige and the gawdawful span of events known as the Tapestry Wars, she's mostly "local color", a character who exists more to expose the thought processes of her people than for any reason that involves her personally.

What makes Idiri important isn't who she is. It's what she does. (Which may logically grow out of who she is, but that's a pretty broad call.)

Trece an Ver is a bartender toward the "end of days". He's friends with Garnet (aka Graille an Hlel) and with the members of Circle of Friends. He's a nice guy, unassuming, intelligent, philosophical about everything. When the Fire happens his experience is completely different from 99.99% of the other people who survive, mainly because when he survives he's with Garnet. She leads him away from the destruction, far to the north, where they meet up with some very tribal people and hang out for almost 700 years.

The reality of the disaster is very remote for Trece. He knows a lot of people died, including his entire family and just about everyone he's ever known. He knows that there are survivors elsewhere--the Makers, or the Changers, or Changing Ones depending on who you talk to, have told him that. And somewhere along the line he gets lonely for his own kind and decides to head back south.

The Makers try to talk him out of this course of action, Idiri included. They don't provide any information as to why they don't want him to go, they just don't. Because he has no good reason not to go, he does. Big mistake.

The world has changed completely and the descendents of the other survivors are hostile and violent. He runs afoul of the law in several different places before he finds himself stuck in a prison which exists for the sole purpose of identifying immortals. Once he's exposed, he's taken away from there, given to a Very Bad Man and tortured for information. The Very Bad Man specifically wants to know where are the Makers. Trece refuses to tell him. After about 50 years the Very Bad Man decides that Trece is useless and to punish him he mutilates him and tosses him back into the prison system. This is a very bad time for Trece.

As a result of his suffering he starts to wonder whether or not he did the right thing protecting the Makers. They haven't done anything for him, and as far as he can tell they haven't done anything for any of these other people. There's a lot of suffering in the world and they either don't care or can't do anything about it. He's eventually rescued by Roi na Ker, the Bitch of Claremoren, who hides him where no one else can hurt him and tries to pry his secrets out him using much more..."honorable" methods.

Back home in the forests of the north, Garnet is getting restless and is no longer satisfied hiding and waiting for something to change. She wants to go among the people and slap some healing and hope on them. A lot of the other Makers want her not to do this. At first Idiri wants her not to do this. Eventually they decide that she can do this if she wants--they will not stop her, but they will not help her if she gets in trouble. Over time, it is through Garnet that Idiri learns what happened to Trece, and most importantly, why.

Idiri takes it upon herself to travel to the south as well, and find him and when she finds him, to "heal" him. In the end, the very end about 2000 years later, she spends all of her power restoring him completely, because she loves him and she's decided he's suffered enough for her people.

:::breathe:::

So what amused me about all this is that the name Trece is "Tracy", and apparently, so are you, which I didn't know until I got the drawing. Odd little bit of synchronicity there, that you chose her, and very cool.

*wink*
Thank you again.
Legolan loves her, too!

That's so incredible ~ thank you VERY much for sharing this. And how odd about the Trece enigma!

She works in mysterious ways.

BTW, all this high fantasy with accompanying art has triggered the urge in me to drag out some of my Deaghydhe and Tarmi stories and art. Run away now while you still have the chance.
