hm...seems like some folks can't take what they dish out.
After once again taking up for myself and all overweight people by making extreme comparisons, I get this on Yahoo! messenger:
s: your comment about gays and HIV was totally uncalled for and upon reading that, i no longer care to speak to you. please remove me from everything.
me: odd how offensive one comment can be, yet another is totally okay. that's the point I was trying to make, Scott, with something that you could deeply understand. it's not pretty, but discrimination hurts despite the target. I thought you would understand that, but apparently not. consider yourself removed.
It's just as well because he was about as irritating as poison oak on heat rash. I maintained communication with him after I left the Shriekback list mainly because I felt sorry for him.
What really bothers me about this is that I never said anything to the effect that I agreed with folks who view HIV as a curse from god. In fact, I abhor that kind of misdirected thinking. I was simply trying to make him understand how it feels to be talked to about someone else regarding something that is quite personal and sensitive to you as well. As usual, he misunderstood my attempt to politely tell him I didn't appreciate discrimination showing up in my journal, and went ballistic.
It pisses me off when people can't take the same bullshit they "innocently" serve in abundance to others. I don't need people like this in my life and I'm glad he's gone. He's not the first person to turn away instead of having to face the ugliness of their own discriminatory practices, and I'm certain he won't be the last.
Good fucking riddance.
