I drug my sorry butt out of bed after 1 PM this afternoon, but at least I was rested after having worked all night. It's no fun trying to snooze in an uncomfortable desk chair while idiots call you in the night. I did get a wee nap between 4 and 4:30 a.m. but it wasn't nearly as much as I needed. So I made up for it when I got home and slept a good solid 5 hours.
After noshing on some turkey that didn't agree with me, I hopped in the shower and got cleaned up for Llew. He was coming to pick me up and take me flying. Before he arrived, Wanda called and gave me the scoop on what's going on at work. Seems another wave of lay-offs has a occurred in two of our buildings and the building in which I work should see the hammer fall tomorrow. Even though I know they want rid of me because I've been there so long and am now a financial liability, I really don't think I'll be one of the poor sods who gets the slip simply because of my relationship with RCA. They wanted to keep me as their rep after having absorbed Classics and Arista. Once again, I am the rep for the biggest baddest label in our company and they want to keep it that way. I know it rankles "human resources" no end so, when they do figure out a way to kick me to the curb, I'm sure they'll take delight in kicking me a little harder than necessary.
Anyway, Llew got here around 4 and off we went to fly. He's found two fantastic fields behind the Intermediate School in Duncan, each with a ridge to help along those thermals that pop the planes higher into the sky. Much fun was had by us both, but we got a little toasted by the sun. It was so hot and humid that we could actually watch the cumuli boiling with power. Amazing.
After we got back and cooled off, Llew suggested pizza for dinner. I was a little hesitant since I haven't tried pizza, but I decided to be adventuresome. We zizzed up to Pizza Inn and he ordered a medium pepperoni with extra cheese. Extra cheese was a good idea...a nice source of protein...so yay! They gave us the pizza and we left but, as I was about to close my car door, a young guy who worked there came up and told us that they gave us the wrong pizza. It was cheese pizza we had and not the pepperoni. When I offered him the pizza back, he said we could keep it since it was there mistake and asked Llew to go back in and get the correct pizza. So, we got two medium pizzas for the price of one. Hot diggity damn! We brought our plunder home and, as Llew and Aunt Tudi proceeded to nosh with vigour, I pulled the skinniest piece of cheese pizza out and began to munch slowly on the tomato-y cheese. It was pretty good and went down nicely, no problem. So I sampled a little bit of the crust after the cheese was gone and it went down okay too. I didn't finish the whole slice, but I did manage the cheese, which was the most important part, and it was something different than chicken, so I was quite pleased.
The pizza party over, Llew and I retired to a more private area for some alone time while Aunt Tudi talked with Aunt Josephine on the phone. It was a sweet and relaxing day all the way around and it has ended with a bang or two, garnished with that sweet love glow that tells a person all is well with the world. Llew has gone home and I'm ready for some real sleep now. It's going to be quite a day tomorrow, and I'll need as much rest as possible to cope.
For now, though, I'm what most people would consider happy.
More in a minute.
