Before / After

On 22 March, I will celebrate my one year anniversary for gastric bypass. In honour of that, I'm posting my before and after pictures. This is really difficult for me because, believe it or not, I have kept my previous physical state close to the chest. But I feel that posting the pictures will break a trend of shame and secrecy in me that should never have been cultivated and is definitely not needed. So...









Those around me have asked if I feel different and if I have changed since the surgery. I think I can honestly say that the only difference I feel is that I'm healthier. Oh, and my libido has been for shit, so I may as well become a nun, but that's neither here nor there. I believe that clumsycake and green_goblin70 could vouch for me in saying that my personality hasn't changed. I was pissed off before the surgery and I'm still pissed off. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I teared up when I read this because I could understand everything you said.. and the things that you didn't say. You look beautiful, alive, and vivacious.

And you look terrific now, don't feel embarrassed. My husband, when he saw before/after pictures of my mother shortly after her successful diet, asked "Who's the fat lady?" which prompted peals of laughter from my mother and I in the kitchen. :) So there's always that as a possibility for amusement. :)

What gets me is how miserable you look in the before shot. The after shot though, thats the ass-kicking, bouncy, belly-dancing Tracy I remember. And then some!

People are right about the age thing too. You really, REALLY look like a college kidlet. Sorry I won't see you at the wedding *sulk*, next time you breeze through FL stop by, ne?

yeah, your personality hasn't changed any. But I agree you do look much happier in the other photos. I still worry about you and that something might unravel or what all you can't eat now (I guess your Jewish mother syndrome is wearing off on me).

You can tell it in your facial expression of the two photos. I feel kind of bad that you're wearing the Team Canada shirt that I bought you in the before when you look so unhappy. But you can still wear it now, so I guess it's cool. And you can come play Goalie for us if I ever get to playing hockey again.

Like -- Wow! Wow! Wow! It is absolutely remarkable what a difference in the before and after shots. All that stuggle, waiting, pain and work are really paying off. That elliptical trainer wouldn't have been possible a year ago. And a canoe ride would have been mighty tight. I bet you can find clothes a LOT easier too. I'm so happy for you and know that with your determination, it's only going to get better.

Walking wasn't even possible last year. As for clothes, I haven't gone shopping yet. I had sizes ranging from 18 to 52, so I've just been using what I have. It's almost time to buy some pants though. Can you tell I'm just not into clothes? LOL.

Absolutely amazing!

I've had friends who have had that surgery and watched the results first hand.

Which also means that I've seen the weight go down over time.

Not having known that you had the surgery and *then* seeing the before and after pictures it makes the transformation just that more intense.
