And I Reiterate
Jun. 16th, 2005 11:25 amI made this statement in a post dated 31 December, 2004, and I stand by it.
On another movie note, I want to state for the record that there will never be a decent Batman since Michael Keaton. Period. Film makers need not even attempt it any longer. Michael Keaton will always be Batman. No one, and I mean no one, can say "I'm Batman" like Michael Keaton. Get the fuck over it.
And I now add:
Every Batman movie that has been made without Michael Keaton should have credits that read
I'm sorry, but that's just how I feel. Now, I've heard nothing but good things about the new movie Batman Begins and I'm really keen on seeing the Martial Arts in the movie, but Michael Keaton isn't in it.....so I won't be seeing it.
Hell yes, it's narrow-minded of me. Hell no, I don't care!
I went to see the first Batman with an ungodly amount of pessimism on my shoulders. I didn't believe Mr. Mom could be Batman. I was wrong. I was so wrong. Wrong enough to become so faithful to Keaton's Batman, that I refuse to give into the entertainment industry's attempts to draw me into the Dark Knight's world again. Even Jim Carrey as The Riddler couldn't pull me away from the real Batman.
I'm sure Christian Bale makes a fine Bruce Wayne but, for my part, he can shove the Batmobile up his arse. He's not BATMAN. He never will be. Only Keaton. Forever and always, amen.

Love
Michael Keaton is Gawd. I have such a heart-on for him. Have you seen My Life? *sigh* *Keaton-lust*

Date: 2005-06-16 04:02 pm (UTC)Bale should be good. Great? who knows.
Not that Keaton was any slacker in either the Batman or Bruce Wayne roles (he was surprisingly good) he just wasn't BATMAN.

Date: 2005-06-16 07:14 pm (UTC)You should at least dig on it when it hits video. That's how good the rest of it is. Just view it as us comicheads view certain one-offs on their favorite titles: It's a quick riff, and while it might not be The Shit, it's still decent. I mean, for fuck's sake, they got Gary Oldman to play a good guy!

Date: 2005-06-17 06:10 am (UTC)I mean, I heard the new Batman film was incredible, but it's a fair trade-off to sacrifice that AND never see "Batman Forever" or the execrable- no, cockroaches are execrable. "Batman and Robin" is hated with all the ferocity of a thousand blood-crazed sharks.
True story: I got waved through at a drunk-driving checkpoint after returning from that movie. I hadn't been drinking, but I WAS painfully propped up by the steering wheel and I exasperatedly told the officer "WE JUST GOT OUT OF 'BATMAN AND ROBIN' AND WE WANT TO GO HOME!!!" Astrida was stunned that I wasn't breathalyzed on the spot.
One friend of mine saw it at the dollar theatre- and demanded his dollar back. He got it.
Nothing more universally loathsome than "Batman and Robin" ever hit our theatres until Jar Jar Binks first sashayed out of the Naboo Swamps.

Date: 2005-06-17 11:53 am (UTC)As for Jar Jar Binks, I think he was the precursor to that wretched hive of scum and villainy Ben Kenobi goes on about in EPIV. He is the worst thing that ever happened to Hollywood.

Who has voiced the animated Batman for the last decade or so.
He.
IS.

Date: 2005-06-17 03:26 pm (UTC)Either check out any one of the episodes of Batman: The Animated Series, or catch an episode of Justice League. Better still: rent "Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm," which for my money is the best Batman movie ever made.
And hey: Mark Hamill as The Joker.

Not only is Christian Bale Batman he is also Bruce Wayne. Something that Keaton I'm sure could do, but never got the oppurtunity.

Date: 2005-06-17 11:57 am (UTC)Keaton was Wayne and Batman 1000%. Get your head out of your ass (oops, I meant comic book) and wake the fuck up.

Date: 2005-06-21 10:21 pm (UTC)Tin, it is your right to feel that way about Keaton's Batman, but have you considered he's really too old to play him now? Disdain Kilmer and Clooney if you will, but to hold on now, is like saying you won't watch any vampire movies because Bela Lugosi's dead (undead undead undead).
But I am confused about why everybody is now saying "Yay, they've finally made him dark like the comic". Well, when the first movie came out, they were all saying, "We didn't think they would make it dark like the comic, **but they did**"
So what's up? Short memories? Or has the world gone so downhill that the entire benchmark for "dark" has shifted??
