#45, faltering resolve

45 ~ a magic number, that. That's my juror number yo! I got the letter from the clerk of court today that I've been picked to serve on jury the week of 25 August. I can't wait, can't wait, can't wait! Having served twice before, once on a litigation case and once on a criminal case, I pretty much know what to expect. I hope I get picked for something juicy, so much so that I can't even write about it here. I hope I get sequestered! That'd be groovy. Being picked for jury duty is a sure sign that my luck may be turning. Maybe I should aggressively play the lottery for the next month. You're chosen for jury duty in a sort of lottery/raffle thing, so maybe I'll get to witness a Law & Order-worthy court case and then win a million clams for the hell of it. Again, that'd be groovy. While I'm at the courthouse, I'm gonna ask them if there's any way a person can volunteer to be on a grand jury or be involved in the court system in an ongoing capacity. All of that fascinates me so much, there'd be nothing I'd love more than to be a part of it all the time.
My resolve has officially been compromised. Even though Michael Keaton isn't in it, I want to see the new Batman movie The Dark Knight. It's not because of Batman, no. I can't stand Christian Bale. Just looking at him pisses me off for some reason. This probably won't come as a surprise to anyone who knows me just superficially that the movie villain once again has tickled my fancy. There's just something about Heath Ledger's Joker that makes my eyebrows lift and my ears perk. Maybe it's that he looks like the bastard child of Robert Smith and Darth Maul. I don't know. I doubt I'll figure it out. I've never been able to figure out what it is about certain individuals that piques my interest. Psychic pheromones? Mebbe. After Batman Returns, I swore never to watch another Batman movie without Michael Keaton in the leading role. So far, I've stuck by my vow, much to
green_goblin7t's ire. Now, I may have to break my 16 year long boycott of the movie franchise so that I can get me a Joker fix. Gods I'm pathetic.

Date: 2008-07-18 09:44 pm (UTC)Me either. His boss used to be a professional sculptor, so I attribute the boss's coolness to the fact he is an artist.
He still can't believe that Chris and I 'write' together. As he said his wife and he couldn't work 'creatively' together. LOL
Perhaps this is where the lack of sanity comes from ;)

Date: 2008-07-19 11:59 am (UTC)Bale is such a dour, wooden creature, that he really works in certain roles, even though he doesn't appeal to me (and although seeing him last week in Reign of Fire was a revelation in how much emotion he *can* show. I liked this movie much more than I expected). I didn't particularly like Batman Begins, but am willing to give Bale another chance in the role. And I would not miss Ledger's Joker -- people are talking Oscars.

Date: 2008-07-21 10:38 am (UTC)Normally I would agree, heh. :)
But the last time I got picked it was potentially for a sex abuse of children case. And knowing someone who'd been going through the cleanup of that with her kids, all I could think of was anything BUT. THIS. CASE. PLEASE!
Attorney for the defense was an ass - I had more of a dislike for him than the defendent, since the attorney was extremely intimidating and insisted I had to give a yes or no answer to his question, not my honest maybe. :P
Since then, I really really really REALLY wish there was an "opt out of specific types of cases" ability. Ideally "case without asshole attorneys" *laughs* but I'll take "sign me up for civil cases by the dozen please" over ones like that one. I'd much rather sit in on a divorce case, or someone's lawsuit for breach of contract.
Gah. Sorry to rant on your LJ... it just sparked something, I guess.
