tinhuviel: (Thiyennen)

iTunes just played a song I've been hunting for for almost 20 years, without being able to remember the composer or title of the piece, except for the word "Gypsy".  I had it on a cassette that was nothing but Romani-inspired Classical pieces, which I found in a bargain bin in Camelot Music in 1985.  The tape broke around 1990 and I had long since lost the case card, so I couldn't remember one flipping thing about it.  This song…this song was incredibly influential in the forging of Thiyennen Vathyella back in 1986.  This, an assload of Antonín Dvořák’s works, and traditional Klezmer music.

The last time I tried to find the song was about mid-2014.  I could hear it in my mind and, at one point was intent on translating it to keyboard, 'cos I used to be able to play things by ear.  My hope was to record myself playing the song - badly - and share on social media, in the hope someone could identify it for me.  I couldn't get to the Unit's keyboards, though, because *hoard*.  It was only then I became resigned to never finding the song again.

It's been on my iTunes for fucking years and I didn't even know it!

What's so bizarre is, I was sorting through some paperwork having to do with Thiyennen at the time the song began to play.

That’s some Six Flags over Synchronicity shit right there, I kid you not.

Without further ado, I present the undeniably Vampiric Danse De La Gypsy by Camille Saint-Saens.

Dammit, I can't seem to get all my iTunes transferred from the external HD to the new computer correctly, specifically the videos I've bought over the years. So I've decided to wait until the other computer gets back and am going to have the Geek Squad do their magick professionally for me. I can't afford to lose any of my music, especially since I've had to sell most of my CDs over the past couple of years. There's no way I can retrieve these songs, so I don't want to take any chances with this at all. It's gonna be a two week wait but, since I have thousands of songs, it's not like I'm gonna be running out of tuneage any time soon. Still, though...tarnation! It's not like I've not done this before. I'm forgetting to do something here and I'm a feeling a bit of an idiot at the mo. Blargh....

Froderick

Son of iGor was beginning to act a little hinky on me. He's got some years on him and my invariable proclivity for dropping precious things visited itself upon him more than once. Thankfully, I keep him cased in a bouncy rubber iPod case, so the damage was minimal. Nonetheless, he's developed a glitch and, since I've had to sell all my music, my only source of music was the computer, which didn't garner any confidence because what if the computer died? See? I could lose everything.

On top of that, Son of iGor held only 7500 songs and I was well over 6100. I could still add music, but my photos had no place to stay on the already taxed iPod. My dream iPod was the 160 gig super iPod from Hell that held 40k songs and every picture known to humankind. I mentioned this to Aunt Tudi and she mentioned it to the Mother Unit. They went in together and got me one. In keeping with the Son of Frankenstein motif, I've named this iPod Froderick. I guess that means I should have a Froderick icon. When it came in the mail yesterday, I was out of my head. The Mother Unit even printed me out a book the size of War and Peace that explains everything you can do with the iPod Classic. I've got reading to do and in spades. I can't thank them enough for this because music is my life. I would never have written The Vampire Relics had it not been for music and my Joker wouldn't have developed the way he did without the Zoot Suit tunes provided him by iTunes.

This way, I can collect even more tuneage and my photos ~ all 6158 of them ~ are all sitting on Froderick now for viewing by everyone. I even got to show the girls at Doc's office a picture of Fitzgerald, so they'd know who the wormy little fucker was. It was a glorious thing, I tell you, a glorious thing. What's so cool is that I've used less than half the memory of Froderick and can put Uncle Michael's entire library of music on Froderick as well. I'll have so much music, I'll need some sort of musical kaopectate to help me through the wonderfulmousness. It took me about six hours to transfer all the music and photos onto Froderick, but that was well than worth it. I'll be just as patient hooking Uncle Michael's extensive library, if he'll let me borrow it.

This was my Christmas/Chanukah present from Aunt Tudi and Mama. They went ahead and gave it early since Son of iGor was showing signs of pooping out on me. I can't thank them enough. There's nothing I wanted any more than this other than Dave Matthews tied to my bed...nekkid.

tinhuviel: (Sui Generis)
These are the songs to which I've been listening for the past couple of weeks without end, whilst writing "Sui Generis."

The playlist will most likely be retired once the chapter is complete and I'll return to my more generic Vampire playlist used for the entire book.
