It seems like every day brings to my door something spectacular that created by what would have been a "nobody" a decade ago. But, thanks to the Internet, the doors of creativity are no longer shut to these intrepid artists and, for that I am very grateful. It is what helped revitalise Shriekback, bringing the artists directly to the fans. It is what kept Joker and Heath's memory alive, thanks to folks like [livejournal.com profile] paisley_daze, [livejournal.com profile] gunslingaaahhh, Meg Farley, Scott McClure and his Joker Blogs, and [livejournal.com profile] acook. It shot much-needed inspiration into the arms of a host of writers and artists hellbent on not letting Darth Maul die. And that is what brings me here today.

When the former nobodies of the world rise up against the creator of their fandom, and essentially take it over despite his protestations, it may be time to start listening. And when they do it so well, it leaves others slack-jawed from watching it, it might actually be time to pass on the crown and sceptre.

Submitted for your approval. First the original song and video, then the one made by the "nobodies."

Sith ingenuity prevails over stinky Jedi copyright stinginess every single time. Enjoy!

Happy International Star Wars Day! This vid was shared by the always groovy [livejournal.com profile] glittertrixie, because she is strong in the Force and the Funk. Here's hoping you enjoy Meco Monardo's music along with the bodacious SW footage. It's truly Sithalicious.

OMFG

Here's part 2 of "The Final Date." Some may hate it, some may love it. Either way, I hope you at least kinda like it.

Ten years. It's been ten freakin' years and my face still got sizzling hot after viewing this. I feel the need to call my old Kung Fu teacher, who happens to look like Ray Park. Oh, and for all you non-Star Wars types, Ray Park is the man who played the body of Darth Maul. Peter Serafinowicz (yes, the angry room-mate in Sean of the Dead) played Maul's voice. Maybe I should watch EP1 tonight....

Nothing like some Wu Shu to get a girl's blood to boiling.

Conversion

If I hadn't been alive at the time of his death, I'd say I was the reincarnation of Jim Jones. My obsessions bleed over on the people around me. I've been told over the course of my life that I could give people Kool-Aid and they'd happily drink it. In 1980, I discovered ELO. By 1981, I had the entire family and many friends converted. In 1990, I discovered Shriekback. It wasn't until 1999 that the great Shriek migration began with my putting out the word that there were still fans out there. Props to [livejournal.com profile] boba and Phil Hetherington for providing me a starting point and helping me along the way with that. It led to the Shriekback Digital Conspiracy and numerous friendships and collaborations, including a friendship and working relationship with Barry Andrews. At the same time, I discovered a whole knew dimension of Star Wars fandom with the Darth Maul Estrogen Brigade, which broke my writer's block via the medium of fanfiction. This led me to new friendships that came to know Shriekback because of my obsession with that band. One friend, [livejournal.com profile] falkenna, met Barry Andrews and, because of our admiration for Darth Maul and for him (hers was newfound ~ that whole Jim Jones thing coming in to play again), he found himself placing rose thorns on his head in emulation of our favourite Sith Lord. When worlds collide, they really freakin' collide.

So, when [livejournal.com profile] clumsycake called me yesterday, she asked what I was doing. I told her I was writing my final Date Night story and twiddling my thumbs until the next installment of The Joker Blogs came out. She didn't know what I was talking about because she 1) hadn't seen The Dark Knight yet and 2) had yet to see The Joker Blogs. I knew she couldn't get the full-on goodness of the Blogs without seeing the movie first to witness the miracle of Heath Ledger's performance. So I asked all innocent like, "Whatcha doing tomorrow?" She said she didn't know. "You do now. You're coming over to my place to watch The Dark Knight, then you're gonna watch The Joker Blogs. No isn't an option."

Now[livejournal.com profile] clumsycake is of the same mind as I am about Batman. No Michael Keaton, no Batman. I explained to her that the movie wasn't about Batman, as far as I was concerned. "Forget Batman. He's secondary. Just watch the Joker." When she got here today, since no wasn't an option, I would have had the Kool-Aid ready, but I didn't have any. She did bring Aunt Tudi some Crystal Light though, but that doesn't count. We watched the movie. We watched the Joker Blogs.

[livejournal.com profile] clumsycake is now a convert. For that matter, Aunt Tudi has begun to see the hypnotic draw of the Joker and she can't keep her eyes off the computer screen when the Joker Blogs Dude is on talking about his "delicate features and feathery hair."

Yea, verily, and hallelujah. Let the Kool-Aid flow.

Attention all Geeks!

Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed is on the History Channel right now. I don't see where it'll be repeated in the near future, but I'll be paying attention to the schedule for upcoming episodes. So far, it's been an excellent show, even though I've only seen ten minutes of it. I hope I haven't missed the part on Darth Maul, if there is a part, that is.

Today's featurette is "The Saga Begins," which was of monumental importance to us geeky Star Wars fans who were all over The Phantom Menace like a freckle. [livejournal.com profile] green_goblin7t and I would listen to this song and just titter with glee. It was one of the few times he and I were united in our love for something. A Jedi and a Sith figuratively linked arm in arm, singing along at work instead of doing our jobs.....good times, good times! I got to see Al in concert for the first time when he was touring to promote Running with Scissors, the album this song is on. When he sang this song, in full costume, and came to the part where Qui Gon Jinn meets up with Darth Maul and "now he's toast," I shouted out so loud that I got Al's attention! Oh, it should be of note that this song merited the traditional lit lighters one sees at many concerts. It was a glorious moment. Al did it again during the Poodle Hat concert too, but I was too verklempt to scream out like I did the time before; however, when we got backstage to talk to Al, I did tell him how this song had touched many women in the Darth Maul Estrogen Brigade. He seemed rather amused by that, as well he should be.

So, without further ado, I present the instant classic THE SAGA BEGINS

I can't hardly type from laughing so hard, I'm in tears. Thank you thank you THANK YOU, [livejournal.com profile] lebonheurbum! You've made my year!

This adds a whole new dimension to the Alpaca Lips being upon us. Needless to say, this gem is going to be embedded on the user info page of the First Church of the [livejournal.com profile] alpaca_lips!

The original theatrical versions of EPs 4,5, and 6 are coming out on DVD! It's about damned time. Right now, the only SW movie I have on DVD is The Phantom Menace (for obvious reasons). I refused to buy the altered versions of the originals because they piss me off. As for EPs 2 and 3, no thank you. As far as I'm concerned these were made after Lucas fell completely into dementia. He was halfway there with EP1, but at least there was Maul to soften the blow.

Okay....I'm off to apply some paint to my face.

There's a dude here in The Pit whose name is Babu. Isn't that what Sally always called Linus? Her sweet Babu? Every time I see Babu, I want to say "Hello, my sweet Babu!" And he doesn't know me from adam, so he'd probably get really fearful that I was coming on to him.

I've finished cleaning off the rest of my desk and came across something that really took me back.

a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.... )

Man, those were the days. I saw that movie 15 times. How sad is that?
